The Grenfell Reindeer Project was an attempt from 1907-1914 to introduce reindeer from Scandanavia to Newfoundland and Labrador. The goal was to have a new domesticated animal for work in northern Canada. Stephen Sabine was actively involved in the field on this project and documented his time there. Ultimately, the project failed as the reindeer died off and they introduced diseases to local populations of Caribou.
This collection includes Stephen Sabine's diary of his time working for the Grenfell Reindeer Project in Newfoundland and Labrador. It also includes clippings relevant to the project, a letter to Rachel M. Brown, and an itinerary for a trip down the Labrador coast.
