Roy A. Foulke was born on Aug 31 1896 in New York City. He served in the Infantry in 1918, achieving the rank of 2nd lieutenant before graduating cum laude from Bowdoin in 1919. As an undergraduate, Foulke was a member of the Zeta Psi fraternity, Phi Beta Kappa, the Orient/Bugle, the track team, and the debating team. Foulke married Mathielde F. Larsen in 1924. Foulke spent the majority of his career as a banker, serving as Vice President of Dun & Bradstreet, Inc. (1931-1961). Foulke also authored several finance-related publications, including “The Sinews of American Commerce”(1941) and “Practical Financial Statement Analysis”(1945-68). Foulke served the college extensively after graduation, notably as Overseer (1948-73), and was given the alumni service award in 1974. Bowdoin presented Foulke with two honorary degrees in 1939(A.M.) and 1971(LL.D.).
