General Catalogue of Bowdoin College, George J. Mitchell Department of Special Collections & Archives, Bowdoin College Library, Brunswick, Maine
The General Catalogue was first produced in 1889 by the college librarian as a biographical record of alumni and officers. The previously published Latin version of the catalogue entitled Catalogus Collegii Bowdoinensis evolved into the Alumni Directory while the General Catalogue became a different type of alumni listing inspired by the History of Bowdoin College written by Nehemiah Cleaveland in 1882. The publication responsibility was transferred to a special committee of the Governing Boards.
The General Catalogue is a listing of faculty, trustees, overseers, alumni, and honorary degree recipients of Bowdoin College and the Medical School of Maine.
