Joseph McKeen (1757-1807), first President of Bowdoin College, was a graduate of Dartmouth. He was a Congregational minister in Beverly, Massachusetts for sixteen years before accepting the position at Bowdoin, where he served from 1802-1807.
This collection contains general correspondence concerning College affairs. Most primary source material concerning the administration of the College in the early years is found in the records of the Board of Trustees or in the Records of the Faculty which includes the records of the Executive Government.
