William Haskell Farrar was born in Belfast, Maine in 1888. After attending Morse High School in Bath, Farrar graduated from Bowdoin in the Class of 1914 and served for the next three years as Assistant to the Treasurer of the College. In 1917, Farrar became Assistant Cashier of the First National Bank of Brunswick in 1917, was later promoted to Cashier in 1932, and then elected President of the bank in 1956. He later became Senior Vice President through the merging of the Brunswick and Portland Bank locations. He retired in 1962 after a 45 year career with the bank. Farrar was elected Secretary of The President and Trustees of Bowdoin College in 1944 served the college for 20 years as Secretary of The President and Trustees of Bowdoin College. In 1964 he was elected an Overseer Emeritus. Farrar was a noted civil leader. Farrar was the only charter member of the Brunswick Rotary Club. He worked as Trustee and Treasurer of Brunswick Sewer District, and as a Treasurer of the Brunswick-Topsham Chest. He also served as Treasurer of the Maine Cancer Society, the Brunswick Chamber of Commerce, and of the Brunswick Development Company. Worked as the Secretary of the Maine Senior Golf Association, President of the Cumberland Seed Potato Company and Director of the Richmond (Maine) Water Works. William Haskell Farrar passed away in Brunswick, Maine in 1970.
