Subject and Word Searching
Either subject or keyword (word)searching can be successfully used to find relevant resources. Subject searching gives the best results when standardized Library of Congress SubjectHeadings are used.
Subject headings relevant to Women's and Gender Studies are many, diverse, and sometimes appear inconsistent in their wording. When doingsearches, remember to check the subject fields of all relevant records. Use these subject fields to refine a search.

Browsing
Once an item record is on the screen, the catalog can be browsed. Click on the call number of any title, and materials shelved next to the title will appear. Use next page or previous page to continue the browsing. The general call number range for Gender Studies is HQ 1075; men and gender, HQ1088-1090; sexuality, HQ 12-472; and Women's Studies, HQ 1101-2030.7. Biographies on women are in the CT 3200-3830 range. It's important to browse either in the catalog or in the stacks in conjunction with performing word or subject searches.
