Librarians staffing the Reference desk offer ready reference services to all patrons. Reference librarians work closely with faculty and students to develop research strategies for specific topics, and to locate and evaluate materials for reference and research.
The library offers access to a wide variety of electronic databases and print indexes. Please see the Indexes and Databases page for more information. Most of these resources are available for use by all patrons; a few are limited to use by Bowdoin College faculty and students only. The Reference librarians assist patrons in using these tools and other online search services as needed.
Each fall, librarians offer introductory classes to first-year students. Throughout the academic year, librarians work with faculty members to develop classes tailored to research for individual courses; these classes may be scheduled to take place either in the library or in the classroom. Please contact the Reference staff for more information.
