A presentation and discussion of publishing issues with Heather Joseph, Executive Director of SPARC, the Scholarly Publication and Research Coalition.
SPARC is an international alliance of academic and research libraries that works to advance the creation and dissemination of scholarship by harnessing the power of the Internet. Come with your questions about publishing in open access journals, author fees, retaining copyright to your intellectual property, or FRPAA, the Federal Research Public Access Act.
Joseph has been SPARC Executive Director for five years, where she leads the organization’s advocacy efforts, works with researchers, funding agencies, and policy makers, negotiates partnerships with scholarly publishers, and assists scholarly societies launching new publishing models. She received the 2002 Association of Learned and professional Society Publishers’ Award for Services to Not-for-Profit Publishing and served as president of the Society for Scholarly Publishing in 2004-2005.
Lunch will be through the line in Thorne. There will be a sign-up sheet at the register. Advance registration is not needed, however, please notify Helen Hill if you plan to attend: hhill@bowdoin.edu
