Still a work in progress, the TLL covers the letters A-M, O and part of P (Not bad for a dictionary that began in 1894!).

Note that we also have online access to the Thesaurus Linguae Graecae (TLG)).

EndNote or Zotero? Or both?

Take one or all of the workshops described below to learn about tools to manage citations.

What’s that? Not able to attend one of the scheduled sessions? Contact us! Individual EndNote and citation management instruction and consultations can be scheduled at your convenience.

To register or if you have questions, contact Karen Jung at 725-3311 or kjung@bowdoin.edu.

Zotero

Zotero is an alternative for managing citations that resides in your web browser, “right where you do your work.” It can be used as a stand-alone manager, or in conjunction with EndNote.

Friday, 3/2/12, 2:00-3:00 PM - ECR, H-L Library

Thursday, 4/5/12, 12:00 – 1:00 PM - ECR, H-L Library

EndNote 101

EndNote is bibliographic citation management software tool that allows you to maintain a “personal library” of references and citations. It can also import citation information from the Library’s Catalog, online indexes, and databases. If you use Microsoft Word, you can insert citations from your personal libraries directly into your documents and create bibliographies from those citations. This workshop will teach you to use EndNote and EndNote Web (both of which are easy to use, but not intuitive) in just one hour.

Monday, 2/6/12, 2:00-3:00 PM - ECR, H-L Library

Thursday, 2/16/12, 2:00 – 3:00 PM - ECR, H-L Library

Wednesday, 3/7/12, 2:00-3:00 PM - ECR, H-L Library

Social Explorer, an online research tool containing quick and easy access to demographic information from 1790 to the present, updated on a rolling basis, now includes the below data.

2010 Census Data – all Summary File 1 data is now available in Social Explorer. This means that users have data for all US states and territories, for all summary levels and all variables. Data from the Census includes information such as age, sex, and race.

2010, 2008-2010, and 2006-2010 American Community Survey Data – all new releases of the American Community Survey (ACS) conform to the 2010 Census boundaries and estimates and offer data down to the block group level.

“… some form of coeducation is one of the most pressing needs of the College and the step best calculated to give new vitality to the entire Bowdoin Community.”
-Pierce Report (Study Committee on the Underclass Campus Environment), May 1969.

At their September meeting in 1970, the Governing Boards of Bowdoin College accepted the recommendation of the Pierce Report (named for committee chairman and Trustee William Curtis Pierce ‘28) and voted in favor of coeducation, thus ushering in the first class that included women degree candidates in the fall of 1971.

The exhibition A New Vitality, featuring documents, photographs, and publications from the Bowdoin College Archives, celebrates the fortieth anniversary of coeducation at Bowdoin by chronicling that transitional time in Bowdoin’s history and by demonstrating many of the ways that women in the Bowdoin community have enriched the fabric of college life throughout its history, both before and after the advent of coeducation.

A New Vitality complements a website devoted to the history of coeducation at Bowdoin, which was created as a class project by the students in Professor Jennifer Scanlon’s Fall 2011 class “Forty Years: The History of Women at Bowdoin” (GWS 280).

We are now fully underway with over 1500 journal titles in the catalog and linkable from our databases!

A few important things for users to know:

If you look up a Wiley Blackwell journal title in the catalog or get to it via one of our databases, and you have another choice for accessing it via JSTOR or Academic Search Premier, for example, please choose one of those instead of the WileyBlackwell link. That will save us quite a bit of money! Read more..

The Library has a new Wiley Blackwell “Article Select” pay-per-view tokens model where we pay for each journal article as it is accessed.

If you want to include a Wiley Blackwell journal article on Blackboard, do not LINK to the journal article – you must download the PDF to your desktop and then upload it to Blackboard. If you link to it, we will get charged for every view! We created a webpage with information on how to do this, and this page is linked from the Library’s Services for Faculty page (under Reserves) and from the IT Blackboard page. Here is the link directly to the page: http://library.bowdoin.edu/services/reserves/wiley-blackwell.shtml
