Library Research Workstations in the
Hawthorne-Longfellow Library
The Library has recently increased the number of computers available to Bowdoin College students, faculty, and staff in the Hawthorne-Longfellow Library. Six computers have been placed in the student study spaces: two in the Pierce Reading Room, two on the second floor, and two on the lower level in the periodical stacks. The computers can be used for word processing, e-mail, or accessing the World Wide Web, and library research resources. Laptop Access to the Campus Network from the Hawthorne-Longfellow Library The Library has activated fifty network ports for laptop use in student study spaces throughout the Hawthorne-Longfellow Library for the convenience of the Bowdoin College students, faculty and staff. These ports can be found in the following locations: Lower Level: periodical stacks and study carrels; First floor: North and South Reading Bays and West wall carrels; Second Floor: Pierce Reading Room and North wall carrels; Hubbard Hall Sixth Floor: Abrahamson Reading Room. Connecting to the campus network from the Library is simple. You will need the following: your laptop computer with an Ethernet card, an Ethernet cable, and PolarNet software. Then locate a carrel displaying the World Wide Web image. Plug your Ethernet cable into the activated port that corresponds with the number on the image. You are now connected to the Bowdoin College network. For more information, please contact Sara Amato (x3880) or the Hawthorne-Longfellow Library Reference desk (x3227).
