Welcome to Bowdoin College's Governments Documents Collection. The Library is an official depository for United States and State of Maine government publications.
Housed on the Library's lower level, the paper collection of state and federal documents spans two centuries. U.S. documents begin in 1789 and continue through the present day, while Maine documents date from statehood in 1820 to the present. Many historical and current government publications are digitized now. government information in both formats is excellent primary source material for studying American culture and history.
Guest researchers and members of the Bowdoin community alike are welcome to browse paper documents in the stacks, to use Library computers to locate current policy reports and statistics on the Web, or to delve into microfiche series. Most government documents circulate with a Bowdoin Library card. All can be photocopied.
The Government Documents Collection is open during all hours the Library is open. The Government Documents Librarian, Ginny Hopcroft, is available to help in locating government information from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mon. to Thurs. She can be reached at ghopcrof@bowdoin.edu or 725-3298. Please ask at the Reference Desk during other hours.
