History Journals in the J-Stor Electronic Journal Service
Date coverage varies.
The J-Stor service makes available full text articles from selected scholarly journals. All articles from all years of the journal are reproduced, except for the most recent five years.

Main Per Index
Poole's Index is a subject index to British and American periodicals of the nineteenth century. This index provides excellent subject access to these periodicals, many of which are held in the library’s collections.

The Wellesley index to Victorian periodicals, 1824-1900.

Although titled an index, this series is really a table of contents listing with cross- references to subjects. It is a very helpful access source for locating nineteenth century periodical articles, especially if a particular author is known or a specific journal is noted for articles on your research topic.

The entire collection is comprised of several modules; here at Bowdoin we have the General Collection, numbers 1.1.1 through 1.1.11236. This microfiche collection has an online index for subject/author/title searching.

The Annual register of world events; a review of the year, 1758- present

A yearly British publication describing the events of the year in the U.K. and abroad. Useful for a contemporaneous view of events.

Parliamentary debates (Hansard). House of Commons official report. House of Lords official report.
Bowdoin has 1806 to present. 1806 to 1990 are print volumes; from 1991 on the series is in microfiche.

This series, generally cited as Hansard, reports debates in the houses of Parliament. The first four series, covering debate up to 1908, although authorized, are neither complete or necessarily verbatim. The fifth and sixth series, starting with 1909, are complete and verbatim.
