Physical Facilities at Bowdoin

  • Sustainable Planning
    - mission statement, design standards, LEED certification, green buildings...
  • Outdoor Leadership Center
Keisha Payson reports: "OLC new boiler and new solar hot water panels: I crunched the GHG reduction numbers on the gallons of propane that will be saved from each of these projects. The 994 gallons of propane that will be saved from the new boiler equates to a reduction of 5.56 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent and the 115 gallons of propane that will be saved from the solar hot water panels is .64 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent. The combined total of 6.2 metric tons of Carbon Dioxide equivalent is equal to the CO2 emissions burned from consuming 704 gallons of gasoline, or put another way, equal to the greenhouse gas emissions avoided by recycling 2.1 tons of waste instead of sending it to the landfill."
  • Landscaping
Don Borkowski reports: "The College’s last Landscape Master Plan was done in 1995, and is now obsolete. We have hired a new Landscape Architect for the campus. As of now, we have not yet requested them to develop a new/revised plan. I do know that sustainability will certainly be a consideration."
