Introduction

The purpose of this guide is to instruct and assist the Asian Studies student in finding appropriate and important Asian resources for course needs, independent study and honors projects. All relevant formats are represented.

The Library Catalog

The Library Catalog is an electronic index which may be used to locate Asian Studies material found at Bowdoin. Use this catalog to find books, periodicals, newspapers, video recordings and sound recordings about Asia. For more detailed information about the research process and the Library Catalog see Getting Started.

Subject and Word Searching

Either subject or keyword (word) searching can be successfully used to find relevant resources. Subject searching gives the best results when standardized Library of Congress Subject Headings are used.
In general do a subject search to find particular information about a country or region and then use the limit command to narrow the search.
