Anthropology 231 Research Paper

ANTHROPOLOGY 231
RESEARCH PAPER

The purpose of the research paper is for you to apply and evaluate some of the concepts you have learned in the class to a particular Arctic theme. You are expected to do extensive background reading on your topic. As stated in the syllabus, the paper is broken up into three phases: 1) the prospectus; 2) the annotated bibliography and outline; and 3) rough draft, 4) and the final paper.

(1) Prospectus (due 9/29) Identify the topic you want to research for your paper (see list of potential research topics.) If you are interested in a topic not on the list, you need to get pre-approval from me. The prospectus should be no less than one paragraph and no more than one page in length and should include at least 5 bibliographic references.

(2) Annotated bibliography and Outline (due 11/10). You will hand in an outline of your overall paper and an annotated bibliography of the primary references you will be using. You should have no less than five references. Use the SAA style guide for formatting.

(3) Rough Draft (due 11/22) Hand in a rough draft that includes all the major sections of your paper. You may include a revised outline as well. Also include tables, maps, figures where appropriate.

(4) Final paper (due 12/14) The final paper should be between 10-15 typed pages in length. Your final paper should include a title page, table of contents, page numbers, and a list of your references cites. All papers should be submitted prior to 4:00 pm in the Anth231 mailbox in Riley House.
