The purpose of this guide is to identify library and Web resources that will help you with your clean energy technologies project. If you have questions feel free to contact Carr (x3545 or cross@bowdoin.edu) or call the Library Reference Desk at x3227.
Magazines, Newspapers and Journals
Search these library databases for articles on all topics: energy policies; emissions; new & existing technologies; funding; consumption. These databases will be especially good for costs and benefits of technologies. For databases without full text, check the Find Journals tool to see if the Bowdoin Library subscribes to the journal.
For current, up-to-date information:
- Academic Search Premier
-very useful, multi-subject periodical index

- China
- Chinese Energy Policy Outlook: Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
-from The 6th Asian Development Research Forum General Meeting,2004 Bangkok, Thailand - China Sustainable Energy Program
- "... supports China's policy efforts to increase energy efficiency and renewable energy;" a very good gateway to the National Energy Policy and related links. - China: Energy Policy and Natural Gas Use

Meeting Greenhouse Gas Reduction Commitments
- The European Environment Agency (EEA) collects environmental data for the European Union. There is a host of useful information at its Web site. Relevant selections follow. (You may have trouble opening some of the .pdf files at the EEA. If you do have trouble, save the file first to your computer, then open it.)
- Overview of Products
-starting page for all of the reports, indicators, maps & graphs, data, and economic instruments at the EEA site - Greenhouse Gas Emission Trends and Projections in Europe-2003
-actual and projected progress toward achieving targets under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol - EEA Signals 2004
-annual survey of environmental trends in EU; good overview, includes progress toward Kyoto (p. 17)
- Overview of Products
- The Energy Information Agency is the statistical agency of the U.S. Dept. of Energy. Like EEA above, it provides data, forecasts, and analyses. It will have data on China and the EU. Most data come either from the International Energy Annual, a massive collection that includes CO2 emissions, prices, consumption, reserves, production, etc. or the International Energy Outlook, an assessment of the outlook for energy markets
- Gateway for international data and analyses
- Greenhouse Gas Emissions - International & Domestic
-energy-related emissions data, forecasts and analyses - Carbon Dioxide Emissions from Use of Fossil Fuels
- World Development Indicators
-World Bank database contains figures on CO2 emissions for China and the EU
Energy Consumption and Reserves
- Energy Reserves (from International Energy Annual, 2002, U.S. Energy Information Agency)
-includes China and EU countries
- World Energy Consumption (from International Energy Annual, 2002, U.S. Energy Information Agency)
-China and EU countries

- World Development Indicators
-World Bank database contains figures on energy use, GDP per unit of energy use, and production for China and the EU
Technologies
- U.S. Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy
