Audio Reserves Guidelines

The library will provide a means to submit MP3s for e-reserves and will digitize appropriate material upon request.

The Library adheres to the Fair Use Guidelines of United States Copyright Law (Title 17, USC, Sect. 101, et seq.). If a reserve is determined to fall outside of Fair Use Guidelines, the Library will seek permission to use the material for electronic or print reserve. If the copyright holder denies permission to use the material for reserve, the Library will notify you and remove the reserve. Please indicate on the reserve submission form the maximum cost (up to $75) that you wish the Library to pay if there are charges for permission.

In accordance with U.S. Copyright Law, the library will adhere to the following guidelines for providing digital access to music and other audio e-reserves:

  • The library will only digitize material which has been legally acquired. Faculty members are responsible for submitting only legally acquired material.

  • The library will attempt to purchase a physical copy of the material whenever possible.

  • Use of the material is restricted to members of the course only for the duration of the course

  • Material may not be retained beyond the duration of the class, nor redistributed at any time in any fashion.

  • Neither the faculty member nor the library may provide electronic access to materials that students would otherwise be required to purchase.

  • Material must be immediately relevant to the class.
