General Information
The cataloging, classification and end-processing of all library materials acquired is the responsibility of the Technical Services Department. This includes books and non-book materials, such as microforms, sound recordings, musical scores, videocassettes and electronic media like interactive multimedia, CD-Roms, and Internet resources.
Materials are processed as quickly as possible, according to established workflow routines: many new books are processed within 24-48 hours of arriving in the library. Materials which cannot be processed so quickly will be made available for circulation within 24 hours of a patron's request.
"In Process" Materials
Each new item acquired by the library is represented by a record in the online catalog. Location and status information are visible in the box at the bottom of the record:

Items which are "IN PROCESS" have been received by the library but are not yet catalogued. Patrons who need these items should contact the Technical Services Department. Cataloging staff will locate any needed item, and process the item within 24 hours.
Rush Processing
Acquisitions staff process rush orders on request for specific items (see Ordering library materials); these items will also be catalogued on a priority basis and will be held for patrons at the Circulation Desk once thay have been processed.
Materials which have been received by the library, and which are awaiting cataloging will be rush catalogued at the request of the patron. Contact any member of the cataloging team for this service.
