Mighty Be Our Powers: How Sisterhood, Prayer, and Sex Changed a Nation at War
by Leymah Gbowee

Leymah Gbowee’s inspirational memoir Mighty Be Our Powers tells of the Gwobee’s amazing journey through the Liberian Civil War. As she graduates from high school and prepares to go to college, her dreams are shattered as fighting breaks out and rebels destroy entire communities. Entire communities become refugees and Leymah is constantly relocated from country to country in search of peace. In the midst of becoming a single mother, living in extreme poverty, and dealing with the fear of violence against her family, there was enough doubt in Leymah’s future for her to give up and not fight injustice, like so many others already had. Instead, Leymah found a way to inspire and uplift an entire community and bring peace to Liberia through her extraordinary courage and determination. This book deals with how women are especially affected during times of conflict and how women have the most potential to bring peace because of it. Anyone looking for an inspirational read? I highly recommend!
