Brenda Wineapple is the author of Hawthorne: a life (2003), as well as numerous other literary biographies. Her essays, articles, and reviews have appeared in many publications, among them The American scholar, The New York times book review, Parnassus, and The Nation. She lives in New York City.

Scope and Content:
Research files, chiefly electrostatic copies of publications and primary sources, with occasional annotations, compiled by Brenda Wineapple in preparation for writing Hawthorne: a life (Knopf, 2003). Wineapple's file order is retained.
