Series Description:
Clippings, many undated, regarding Hanley's Bowdoin affiliation, including his undergraduate days and the award of his honorary degree in 1980. Career clippings, many undated, relate to his time as a medical officer in Formosa in 1946, his views on athletic injuries, and his induction into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame. Clippings from the 1972 summer Olympic games in Munich cover athletic events as well as the anti-Israeli hostage crisis that dominated the games. There are also scrapbooks of the 1972 summer Olympic games and one concerning the 1960 Olympics in Rome.

Series Description:
Electrostatic copies of letters to Hanley from Senators William Cohen and George Mitchell are included, as are a letter from a student in the Bowdoin Class of 1961 and letters from friends in Japan. There are articles by Hanley on varied aspects of sports medicine ranging from nutrition to health problems at the Olympic games, notes for speeches on occasions such as St. Patrick's Day, and writings regarding his connection with Dr. George Farnsworth and the Bingham Fund of Maine.

Series Description:
Includes a 1961 testimonial, the citation accompanying Hanley's 1964 Roselle W. Huddilston Medal, his 1979 Associate Fellowship in the American Academy of Physical Education certificate, and his 1980 honorary Doctor of Science degree from Bowdoin. The remarks at the testimonial celebration for Hanley by the Foundation for Blood Research in January 2000, the homily given for Hanley at his funeral on May 9, 2001, a Memorial Minute on May 21, 2001, by Professor Levine at a faculty meeting, and a posthumous citation from the United States Olympic Committee are among the accolades. There is also an undated certificate for service in the Armed Forces signed by George Herbert Walker Bush.
