Series Description:
Consists of correspondence to and from Horatio Bridge, mostly concerning
his relationship with Nathaniel Hawthorne and the Hawthorne family. Also
included is a small cache of professional letters, including a
recommendation from Franklin Pierce for Bridge as a Purser in the U.S.
Navy, as well as a number pieces dating from the Civil War and
correspondence with Bridge and his publishers.

Consists of a Bridge's copy of Journal of an African Cruiser, with
holograph notes, corrections and additions by Bridge and Joseph J.
Roberts, the first president of Liberia, as well as his notes on
Hawthorne's appointment as surveyor of customs in Salem, Massachusetts.
Also included are two photographs, one of Bridge in his naval uniform and
another of Bridge and his wife, Charlotte.
