Series Description:
Consists mainly of correspondence (1800-1928, and undated) within the
family. A large portion of the series is comprised of letters to or from
Edward, Gorham, or Lyman Abbott. The series also contains correspondence
on both the birthday and the death of Lyman Abbott and a volume of materials
by and about Benjamin Vaughan. Organized by date. An unpublished chronological
listing (item level) of Abbott correspondence, with an alphabetical index
of correspondents, and a finding aid for the Vaughn volume are available
in Special Collections.

such as his popular series of "Rollo" books for boys, to sermons.

Mostly personal journals, notes for various articles, and notebooks of
sermons by Lyman Abbott, along with travel journals kept by his wife,
Abigail F.H. Abbott. Also includes a frontispiece for the book "Cone Cut
Corners," hymns written by Lyman, Lowell Institute lectures, and a
program with autographs titled "1877-1902, Lyman Abbott, The Outlook,
Silver Anniversary." There are also clippings, and miscellaneous writings
by other members of the Abbott family.

Series Description:
Letters, clipped signatures and other signed documents collected
by, and many addressed to, Lyman and Edward Abbott. Most are written
by 19th century American notables in many fields, including writers,
politicians, educators, theologians, entertainers, civil rights
leaders, and scientists. As editors of the Christian Union, later
Outlook, and the Literary World, Lyman and Edward Abbott were in
regular contact with these major figures; many of the letters are
taken from that correspondence. The compiler's original indexes
to the collection are contained in the first box.
