U.S. Senate : Legislative Records.
Environment : Environmental Pollution, 1978-1994.

17 linear feet.
Arranged by subject.
Catalog Number: M202.6.2.2.1

Description:
Files in this series were created from 1978 through 1994 and include memos, correspondence, reports, bills, "mark-up" legislation notebooks, volumes, notes, and notification of hearings. Issues in these files include clean air, clean water, and Superfund legislation--all of which Mitchell supported. Coastal pollution and other environmental maritime issues include polluted fishing grounds, acid rain, nuclear waste and oil spills, and pollution in Maine. Some files were originally created by Senator Muskie's office and continued to be used by Mitchell's office. Grace Reef, Martha Pope, Tom Gallagher, Jeff Nathanson, and Charlene Sturbitts worked on early files created between 1978 and 1983. Kate Kimball and Jeff Peterson worked for Mitchell as staff members on the Environment and Public Works Committee. Kate Kimball was the chief legislative aide for Mitchell in this issue area. Because Kimball and Peterson worked as committee members, most of their files remained with the committee. Ann Tartre, Ted Lillestolen, and Deborah Cotter maintained some later additional files.
