Description:
Files in this series were generated from 1981 through 1994. Materials
include memos, notes, correspondence, reports, testimonies from hearings,
speeches, and press clippings. Files in this series contain information
that is related to material in other series: Labor; Aviation; Railroads; Highways; Judiciary and Communications;
and Maine Defense Bases and
Industries.
This series consists of four
groups. The first group contains mixed files that
cover communications, particularly deregulation
of the telephone industry and the Federal
Communication Commission; defense issues,
particularly GWEN (Ground Wave Emergency Network)
towers; product liability; daylight savings time;
drunk driving and advertisements for alcohol;
labor; aviation; railroads; and a lawsuit
concerning a power plant in Fort Fairfield,
Maine. Most of this material was created from
1983 through 1987. These materials were
maintained and created by Robert Carolla; some
material was created by William Anderson and
Christine Williams. The second group contains
files on science and technology, particularly
NASA, the Maine Science and Technology
Commission, and the Technology Reinvestment
Projects. Some of these files focus on research
projects in Maine. Most were created from 1991
through 1994. Sandy Brown created and maintained
most of the files in this group; Patrick Maxcy
created some of these files. Other files in this
group were maintained by Jeff Sanders but created
by Chris Mann.
The third group contains mixed files on communications, notably television
broadcasting and telephone services; product liability; transportation,
including mass transit, aviation, railroads, and highway regulations--especially
drunk driving; and Federal Trade Commission regulations. Most of these
files were created from 1981 through 1985. Christine Williams created
and maintained these files together with William Anderson and Stephen
Hart.
The final group contains mixed files that were maintained by Peggy Dorthy
and Trey Kelleter.
Access Restrictions: Restricted until January 3, 2015.
