Series Description:
General correspondence and memoranda, accession records, gift lists, procedure and policy statements, 19th century circulation records, collection catalogs, and other material. Most date from the opening of the college through the early 1960s, although some material extends into the early 1990s. Included are items created by librarians John Abbott, Edward Abbott (whose handwritten inscription dedicates the Abbott Memorial Room register of visitors to Jacob Abbott), George T. Little, Gerald G. Wilder and Kenneth J. Boyer, and by other administrators including James S. Coles. The series covers student employment; building construction and renovation; collection development, use and arrangement; and bibliographic instruction. Volumes are listed first, followed by boxes, the latter divided between manuscript and printed material.

Series Description:
This series, which is divided into two subseries, contains material from Special Collections & Archives. The department was named the George J. Mitchell Department of Special Collections & Archives as part of the February 2002 Library rededication. The first subseries, Special Collections & Archives Records - Department Forms, 1993-contains completed Call Slips, Reader Registration forms, and Request for Duplication forms generated by Special Collections & Archives. The second subseries, Special Collections & Archives Records - Reference Queries, 1963-2001 contains correspondence with questions to Library staff and responses from staff concerning the Library's special collections and archives. The third subseries, Special Collections & Archives Records - Permission Requests, 1999 Oct- contains requests to and responses from Special Collections & Archives regarding publication of Special Collections & Archives material.
