Biographical Note:

Bowdoin College was chartered in 1794. The first students entered in 1802 and the first six were graduated in 1806. It was an all-male institution until the Governing Boards voted in September 1970 to make the college coeducational. The first undergraduate woman to receive a degree from Bowdoin was an exchange student from Connecticut College on the Twelve College Exchange Program. She received her degree in 1971. The first regularly enrolled women entered as freshmen in the fall of 1971.

Scope and Content:
Records of graduating classes of Bowdoin College. Includes material on both undergraduate and alumni activities of the class such as Ivy Day, Class Day, class suppers, oratory exhibitions and prize declamations, commencement, commencement parts, reunions, and undergraduate and alumni publications. There are also silhouettes, class photograph albums, dance cards, and class badges. Material varies from class to class.
